PTI rift emerges over nomination of Mahmood Achakzai as opposition leader

Islamabad – A rift has reportedly surfaced within the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) over the party’s decision to nominate Mahmood Khan Achakzai, chief of the Pakhtunkhwa Milli Awami Party (PkMAP), as the Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly.

Party insiders revealed that several PTI lawmakers and allies have expressed reservations about the move, arguing that the slot should be filled by a PTI parliamentarian rather than an allied leader. The decision, initially seen as a surprise political maneuver, has triggered debate within PTI’s ranks about strategy and representation.

Sources say the party’s top leadership is holding consultations to address internal concerns and may reconsider its earlier decision. Meanwhile, opposition members outside PTI are closely watching the developments, as the appointment could shape parliamentary dynamics in the months ahead.
