In a refreshingly candid interview, Malcolm McDowell, the iconic actor and father-in-law of Lily Collins, offered his honest take on her Netflix series Emily in Paris.
“To be honest with you, it’s not my kind of thing, and Lily knows that,” McDowell shared, making it clear that the romantic-comedy doesn’t quite resonate with his tastes.
Still, his admiration for Collins herself couldn’t be stronger. “But I’m the biggest fan of my daughter-in-law,” he said, commending her acting and on-screen presence.
He couldn’t help but praise her charisma: “When she’s on the screen, there’s nobody else on it… she has a beautiful quality. I suppose it’s a sort of charisma.”
McDowell also speculated on the cultural impact of the show, suggesting that Lily’s portrayal has inspired viewers in the U.S. to dream of visiting Paris. “I’m sure [tourism] has gone up so much… ‘Yeah, let’s go to Paris,’” he remarked.
