Police submit preliminary report against K-Electric officials on electrocution deaths

KARACHI – Police have submitted a preliminary investigation report against K-Electric officials in connection with recent electrocution-related deaths during heavy rains in the city.

According to the report, negligence on part of K-Electric in maintaining power infrastructure and failing to insulate live wires was a major factor behind the fatalities. At least a dozen deaths were reported across Karachi due to electrocution incidents during monsoon rains.

Police said that cases under Sections 322 (manslaughter) and Section 34 (common intent) of the Pakistan Penal Code have been registered. The investigation will determine individual responsibility of K-Electric officials before a formal challan is submitted to court.

Meanwhile, civil society activists and victims’ families have demanded strict accountability and compensation for the victims.
