Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday warned that Pakistan will continue to face recurring flood disasters in the coming years unless immediate steps are taken to expand the country’s water storage capacity.

The PM highlighted that climate change is intensifying the frequency of extreme rainfall and cross-border water releases, putting millions at risk every year.
He said that Pakistan cannot afford to “fight floods with temporary arrangements only.”

🏗️ Call for Dams & Reservoirs

PM Shehbaz stressed the urgent construction of large and small dams, particularly in Punjab and Sindh, to manage excess river flows.
He also underlined the importance of reviving shelved water storage projects to ensure sustainable irrigation and protection against disasters.

🤝 National Coordination

The premier urged political parties, provincial governments, and institutions to rise above differences and prioritize long-term flood mitigation projects.
He assured that the federal government will mobilize all resources for climate-resilient infrastructure.

Pakistan Army, NDMA, and PDMA continue to assist civil authorities in rescue and relief operations in flood-hit areas.
Thousands remain displaced in southern Punjab, with the flood threat still critical downstream.
