Army called in as Punjab faces ‘exceptionally high’ flood threat after India’s water release

The Pakistan Army has been deployed in flood-hit areas of Punjab as authorities brace for a dangerous surge in water levels following India’s release of massive water flows into the Ravi and Sutlej rivers.


🔹 The Situation

  • The Flood Forecasting Division (FFD) has warned of exceptionally high flood levels at Sutlej and Ravi barrages.

  • Nearly 150,000 people have already been evacuated from vulnerable districts including Kasur, Okara, Pakpattan, Bahawalnagar, and Vehari.

  • Kartarpur, Kasur, and adjoining areas are already submerged, with floodwaters spreading into agricultural lands.


🔹 Army Deployment

  • Pakistan Army troops have been called in to assist civil administration in rescue and relief operations.

  • Helicopters, boats, and engineering units are being used to evacuate stranded families and transport food and medicine.

  • Medical camps are being set up in coordination with provincial authorities.
