India’s Jaishankar takes swipe at Trump foreign policy, rejects US mediation claim

New Delhi – Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar has criticized former U.S. President Donald Trump’s foreign policy approach, dismissing his claims that Washington could play a mediation role in resolving India’s regional disputes.

Speaking at a policy forum, Jaishankar stressed that India does not accept third-party mediation, particularly on sensitive issues such as Kashmir. He underlined that past U.S. attempts under Trump’s administration to insert itself into regional conflicts were “misguided and disconnected from ground realities.”

“India’s position is clear: we resolve our issues bilaterally, not through outside intervention,” Jaishankar said, adding that strategic autonomy remains central to New Delhi’s foreign policy.

The remarks come shortly after Trump reiterated his past claim that he had been approached to mediate between India and Pakistan — a statement India has consistently denied.

Analysts see Jaishankar’s comments as a pointed reminder that New Delhi seeks strong ties with Washington, but not at the cost of compromising its stance on sovereignty and regional matters
