PM directs NDMA to to step up flood preparedness

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has directed the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) to intensify preparedness and response measures in light of the worsening flood situation across the country.

📌 Key Directives by PM Shehbaz

  • NDMA to enhance coordination with PDMA, district administrations, and the Pakistan Army for timely rescue and relief.

  • Ensure pre-positioning of boats, food, medicines, and tents in vulnerable districts.

  • Establish round-the-clock monitoring cells to track flood levels in major rivers including Chenab, Ravi, and Sutlej.

  • Special focus on Punjab and Sindh, where millions are already affected by riverine flooding.

  • Immediate medical support teams to counter rising cases of waterborne diseases in flood-hit areas.

⚠️ Background

  • Punjab and KP are facing severe flooding due to torrential monsoon rains and large water releases by India into Sutlej and Chenab.

  • NDMA earlier warned of critical flood levels persisting in central and southern Punjab, with waters expected to move towards Sindh in coming days.
