Islamabad – The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on Tuesday announced the suspension of its earlier decision to nominate Mahmood Khan Achakzai, chief of the Pakhtunkhwa Milli Awami Party (PkMAP), as the Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly.
The move comes amid internal disagreements within PTI’s parliamentary ranks and reported concerns from allied groups. Sources suggest that senior party members advised a review of the nomination to avoid divisions within the opposition alliance.
PTI leadership has indicated that consultations are underway to finalize a consensus candidate, stressing that the decision will reflect both party unity and broader opposition cooperation in parliament.
Achakzai, a veteran politician and vocal critic of the ruling coalition, was initially put forward by PTI in a surprise decision last week. His suspension highlights the ongoing political maneuvering as opposition parties seek to consolidate their position against the government.
