Punjab on high alert as Chenab, Ravi, Sutlej overflow

The Punjab government has placed the province on high alert as the Chenab, Ravi, and Sutlej rivers continue to swell following heavy rains and release of water from India.

⚠️ Current Situation

  • High to very high flood levels have been reported at multiple points along the three rivers.

  • Overflow has already inundated low-lying villages in Kasur, Narowal, Okara, Sialkot, and Bahawalnagar.

  • Thousands of families are being evacuated as water enters agricultural lands and residential areas.

🪖 Emergency Measures

  • The Punjab Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) and local administrations have set up relief camps.

  • The Pakistan Army has been deployed in flood-hit zones to assist in rescue, evacuation, and embankment reinforcement.

  • Medical teams, boats, and food supplies have been mobilized.

🌧️ Cause of Flooding

  • Continuous monsoon rains across northern Punjab and Indian Punjab have raised water levels.

  • India’s release of excess water from Harike and Ferozepur headworks has intensified the threat downstream.

🏠 Public Advisory

  • Residents in riverine and low-lying areas have been urged to relocate to safer places.

  • Authorities are maintaining 24/7 monitoring of barrages including Marala, Khanki, Qadirabad, and Headworks Balloki.
