The Sindh High Court (SHC) has sought a detailed report on the widespread cutting of trees along Karachi’s Sharea Faisal, after multiple petitions highlighted environmental and public health concerns.

A bench of the SHC expressed concern that thousands of trees have been felled during recent road expansion and development works.
Petitioners argued that the deforestation is worsening air pollution, urban heat island effects, and climate vulnerability in Karachi.
The court questioned whether proper environmental approvals and permissions were obtained before the tree-cutting drive.
